At iFashion we try to keep you abreast of the trends months before they make their appearance. Most recently I have been distilling the trends presented at the most recent international winter collections. These trends will come into play in the northern hemisphere during our summer months from December 2008 to February 2009. Therefore they will become relevant to our winter ranges in June - August 2009.

The following are trend forecasts for summer 2009. These trends should appear in the international summer collection in September this year and will be in stores in June 2009 internationally and December 2009 locally. This forcast was presented by Li Edelkoort at the Fashion Indaba in Cape Town in March.

In order to communicate her message Li used the medium and metaphor of music. Each of the summer's stories relates to a particular kind of acoustic music. I think unplugged is relevant here. It is an international movement by choice and a local consequence of load shedding. Electricity is the blood of modern technology and without it we return to a world that is more deliberate and more localised. And this is expressed in the trend stories.
The collages are my visual interpretation of her songs.
