Kohl`s Design Nation programme kicks off.
The Kohl’s Design Nation programme kicked off last night, with a chic collection by American designer Narciso Rodriguez.
The programme enlists a designer to create an affordable capsule collection for a month. As part of the programme, each chosen designer gets to travel to a city of his or her choice for inspiration.
The Narciso Rodriguez Collection, inspired by Istanbul, includes bold colours and simple lines. Skirts, dresses and coats form part of the affordable capsule collection of winter essentials. The inaugural line is set to debut in November. With Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Alba as fans, Rodriguez needs no introduction.
Now that everybody is buzzing about the Rodriguez collection, all eyes are on Kohl’s and its next designer collaboration. According to WWD, Derek Lam is on the roster.

While Lam may not be as high profile as Rodriguez, he already has a coveted celebrity following thanks to Diane Kruger, Michelle Obama and Kristen Stewart. Although said to have had mixed feelings about collaborations before, this line would introduce Lam to a new generation of budget-loving consumers.

Vera Wang, Jennifer Lopez and Lauren Conrad have previously collaborated with Kohl’s.
With the Narciso Rodriguez’s Design Nation autumn/winter collection under way, Derek Lam will possibly design a spring 2013 collection.
Affordable capsule collections are not new, but they have mass appeal and they sell fast. Consumers now eagerly await the capsule collection by Maison Martin Margiela for H&M, that’s set to hit over 230 stores worldwide, this November. Retailers understand that creating designer pieces at affordable prices is one fashion-laden way to up revenue and inspire consumers to return for more.
