Hendrik Vermeulen goes global.

Cape Town based designer Hendrik Vermeulen is heading to New York for a very special showing on a global scale. Vermeulen is set to unveil a collection at a pre-World Fashion Week Gala in October. He will also participate in the inaugural World Fashion Week scheduled for 2013, an event that falls under the World Fashion Organisation (WFO).

The WFO’s aim is to grow the fashion industry and help fight social issues. The organisation hosts several fashion events throughout the year with member designers showcasing their collections. Renowned designers such as Elie Saab and Alex Perry are members too.
Vermeulen is also a board member of the World Fashion Organisation (WFO). “Becoming a WFO board member has offered me the chance to see fashion not only as a business but as a tool to actively fight poverty and social inequity through skills developments,” he explains.

The Western Cape based designer is now hard at work completing the collection. Will it be a ready-to-wear, couture, or a mix of both? Vermeulen is not giving much away. “The South African fashion industry will be taken by surprise,” says the designer who’s been creating bridal and evening gowns since 2006.
Vermeulen was appointed to represent South Africa by the World Fashion Council and Board of Directors based on their own selection criteria. He was also selected to showcase in Perth earlier this year by the WFO and World Fashion Council. Watch this space…
