A shoe genius such as Christian Louboutin knows no limits. No heel is too high and no detail is too elaborate. Loved and worn by the world’s most style-loving women, his signature red soles are deemed the perfect accessory.
So when Louboutin was asked to create slippers based on the pair that the fictional and much-loved character Cinderella wore in the film, no one knew what to expect other than the unexpected. And, his signature red soles, naturally.
In honour of Disney’s upcoming Blu-Ray edition release of Cinderella, Louboutin was invited to bring to life the famous glass slippers that transformed Cinderella into a princess. Minus the glass, the Louboutin created slippers are fit for a princess, naturally. Comprising white lace, the peep-toes are embellished with crystals and butterflies. They are picture-perfect.
Unveiled in Paris, Louboutin was elated with the end result. “Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairytale love, but also shoes. Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale,” he says of his real-life footwear interpretation.
So coveted, only 20 pairs of the designer slippers will be produced, according to Disney. So how do we get our hands on, or feet in, these adorable designer heels? According to USA Today, the 20 pairs of Louboutin Cinderella slippers will be given away worldwide, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
“The slipper is the magic wand of transformation, which conjures confidence, beauty and love,” Louboutin shares with Vogue.co.uk. “The dream is a major factor in my language of design. There are no limits in the world of fantasy and there is always a happily ever after.”
