GUCCI GLAMOUR

Glamour redefined in Gucci’s Cruise 2013 collection.

To chill on the sun-kissed Amalfi coast dressed in Gucci is part of the inspiration behind the Italian fashion house’s Cruise 2013 collection. In this collection, creative director Frida Giannini pays homage to vintage-inspired styles of the late 60s and 70, and its icons.
Giannini is a practical dreamer. While her creations are always vivid and wild, they are also accessible and wearable which is the perfect combination behind any successful line. She interprets the free-spirited trends of the past in a modern way to suit today’s consumer.
This collection is style-laden and coveted. “This season I drew inspiration from the house’s Flora pattern to revisit the silhouette, volumes, and colours of the late 60s and early 70s,” says Giannini, who also notes style icons Marisa Berenson and Veruschka as inspiration.

As a nod to the nostalgic glamour of those eclectic days, the collection oozes glamour that’s right for day and night. The lines vary from narrow to loose, and range from floor-length dresses, to pleat detail and embellished gowns, as well as oversized blouses. There are tunics and slim-cut pants, and cropped jackets and longer coats. The collection is rich in colour – from neutrals to deep burgundy – and showcases prints (animal and floral). Using lovely light textures, such as lightweight silk georgette, silk jacquard and linen, it is chic and can be dressed up and down (we especially love the above-the-knee white and floral print dress and the ruffle-detail tunic that can be worn to an evening beach soiree).
As with everything Gucci, the collection includes the all-important accessories. From tribal-inspired neckpieces to wide-brim straw hats, sunglasses and bags (the Soho bag comes in a mini disco version), the collection is retro-meets-modern in every sense possible. And we can’t forget the shoes… To complete the vintage-inspired look, the collection boasts stud-detail wedges, thongs and low and high heels in woven leather.

So if you are heading to captivating Capri, Cape Town or Cancun, this is one resort-ready collection you need to view and, if nothing else, draw inspiration from for that perfect cruise break.
Giannini marries style with comfort to form something inspiring and on-trend. She understands what women love and desire out of clothes, and delivers. It’s no surprise that some of the world’s most photographed stylistas are often captured on the red carpet (and off-duty) dressed in Gucci.
