South African artists design for Superga.
What do you get when you team five hot South African acts with a leading player in the footwear industry? You get Superga’s Editions collection. But, fans of the iconic Italian brand will have to wait until November to experience this creative venture. Featuring modern clean lines and wearable hues, the Editions collection includes the style aesthetic of Locnville, Danny K and Flash Republic. Their brief was to merge personality and style with Superga’s design aesthetic. And, the end result is a cool collection of sneakers.
Cementing their eclectic appeal, Freshly Ground opted for a pair of white sneakers with a dash of red and yellow – topped off with the message of Peace and Love (using a heart). Matching his cool sense of dressing, singer/songwriter Danny K’s grey and purple slim line version is thoroughly modern. “It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own sneaker, and I could not think of a more perfect partnership than this one with the people’s shoe of Italy – Superga. My pair embodies my taste and style, and I can’t wait for people to wear the Danny K version,” says the award-winning artist and producer.
Featuring a lightning bolt as its signature detail, Flash Republic’s design is classic and simple in black, but the yellow laces give it a burst of energy – perfectly depicting the group’s stage persona.
“I love sharing my music and my passion with my fans – whom I call my friends and house heads. And, giving them the chance to walk a mile in my shoes is epic,” says Euphonik, who created a pair of black sneakers with patent leather detail that give it a vintage appeal.
If a hightop experience is what you are looking for, check out Locnville’s super cool pair in black, white and electric blue. It fits the duo’s music appeal and young fan base.
The Superga Editions collection will be stocked at select Edgars stores nationwide as well as the Superga Concept Stores in Johannesburg (Rosebank and Sandton City) and Cape Town (Canal Walk).
