Signatures and a beautiful continuation from the resort 2016 collection.

Marianne Fassler is strong in fabric manipulation. Her collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2016 was hyper-decorative with exuberant applique in dresses and velvet jackets. Pleating was beautiful and asymmetrical cuts with some dresses having detailed hems – carefully continuing from her last resort collection. Fabrics and skins also juxtaposed in a pleasing way. For some, Fassler may seem offbeat, but it is done in a mindful manner. Now isn’t that what contemporary is all about? To not quite coincide with the times? She moves at a different frequency which makes her collection even more gripping.

Elegant gowns came with a bit of quirk. One thing that was clear, was the boldness of the Marianne Fassler woman and that she doesn’t quite move with the masses. Even if her clothes would pick what is current, it would be demure or catapulted into something else.

The show ended, by tradition, with the designer’s team taking a bow right next to her. We never see the artisans and only know them by their work, so this adds fervour to her shows.
