SUZAAN HEYNS True Colours Autumn Winter 2012 Campaign
---FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE---
The SUZAAN HEYNS “True Colours” Autumn Winter 2012 collection premiered on 25th September 2011 at SA Fashion Week in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The collection centred on the concept of the contradictory and duplicitous human nature expressed with sumptuous starkness in the design, the fabrics, and colours employed in the collection. This concept was further explored in the campaign with biblical references. MAC Cosmetics collaborated conceptually with the make up for the shoot with photography by Chris Saunders and Willem Kitshoff as the art director.
The campaign concept focussed on the corruption of mankind. The shoot contained scenes with biblical references with a twist, from temptation of the forbidden fruit to the defiance of Lot’s wife and the Esau selling his first born right. The theme throughout the campaign was one of a glutinous and opulent decay of mankind. Underneath the image man projects, lies his decadent and unscrupulous character, just showing through the cracks. The campaign highlights the duplicitous nature of man’s conscience from his passion to his vulnerability, to his inability to delay gratification and strength, and to the angel and reptilian within.
This was the beginning of a long-lived collaboration between MAC Cosmetics and SUZAAN HEYNS. Suzaan Heyns is thrilled to be collaborating with MAC, who is a leader in the cosmetic industry and the creative application of make up. MAC make up artists skilfully portrayed reptilian scales on the models, as well as the impression of a woman crystallising into salt and bones protruding from another model’s chest. Heyns remarked that, “The campaign really would not have been so successful at portraying the undertones of the messages without MAC and its skilled make up artists”.
Suzaan Heyns is a Johannesburg-based fashion designer. Her label, SUZAAN HEYNS, was launched in 2009 and has since quickly amassed a following amongst fashion conscious men and women. The label’s signature can best be described as having an architectural sentiment that has a feminine twist, with concepts derived from avante garde ideals and classic silhouettes.

SUZAAN HEYNS promotes a lifestyle vision that centres on a combination of artistry, uniqueness, and the bizarre. The allure of art is evident in each garment as she captures her fascination with life and transforms it into seasonally inspired collections.
