If God is in the detail then His church is Porsche Design

So now you know
the Porsche Design brand. Intimately. Let’s park the bespoke merchandise for just a second.

The Porsche Design store itself is a no-corners-cut story Michael Griffin CEO of Porsche Design South Africa tells us as he walks us through. His passion is unbridled and completely authentic. It’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone this excited, honest and unstoppably passionate about anything. Refreshing is an understatement.

Everything visible to the eye including the cladding on the walls, wooden floors, shelving and even the light bulbs were put on a plane and shipped here from Germany at some 22 tons. The display in the window is the exact same in all 100+ stores around the world right now. I spot a humidifier in the corner of the store – for the wooden floors we’re told. Everything has been thought through, planned and executed meticulously.

"Design is not simply art, it is elegance of function." ~ Ferdinand Alexander Porsche grandson of the Porsche founder and designer of the Porsche 911.

It’s no surprise, then that this ethos extends to the products too. Clothing items are washed up to 20 times to ensure that the brand lives up to its promise. Almost all items have something extra that you don’t quite notice at first, but when you do, you have an aha why-didn’t-i-think-of-that moment. Sunglasses with interchangeable lenses, reversible leather belts, handbags with neon linings so you don’t fumble but rather find what you’re looking for quickly – yup, it’s about design. Smart, simple design that adds to your life.

God is in the detail.

Reversible leather belts are awesome for my husband! And any item that has been washed 20 times to ensure it's quality, has me convinced.

The attention to the store details reminds me of the how Steve Jobs got involved with every little detail of the iStore design... Love it!

You get what you pay for, that's for sure. I am a firm believer in quality and not quantity and PD epitomises this!

I especially love the neon linings in the handbag, brilliant! As a non-designer who fancies myself a fan of good design still, it would be wonderful to be able to somehow contribute some ideas (and my own aha-moments) that PD can perhaps use in their lines? Just a thought... Co-creation rocks smilies/wink.gif
