- Education : Plumbum, pronounced ploem~boem and meaning Lead is jointly owned by Preston Tandy and Brett Hills. Pb is the initials of both owners, awa the periodic symbol for Lead. Plumbum was started [but not operating] in September 2005, when after several overseas trips we couldn't find supportive men's underwear and swimwear. Locally the choice was badly-fit department store underwear and designer imports, who offer designer branding at hugely inflated prices, and nothing else. 27 months of research [still ongoing] using different media and 43 prototypes later, we believe we have come up with the most innovative pouch to hit South African shores. Unlike conventional underwear that provides no support, is generally in 100% cotton and looses it's shape when washed, Plumbum underwear does the opposite. Firstly the Engineered pouch moulds, supports and gently lifts the genitals thus creating a fuller pouch. The full back panel cups the bums completely without any visible lines. Secondly, it is in a combed cotton lycra blend that has been tested for shrinkability, elasticity, colour-fastness, and strecth-recovery-strecth. Plumbum swimwear is made in a nylon lycra and with the same engineered pouch.
