Cape Town College of Fashion Design students have 'swept the floor' winning both prizes up for grabs on the day. Thoki Tafeni won the Foschini Fast-Track Top Graduate award and secured a 6 month internship at Foschini, as well as other amazing prizes and Chelsea Mouton, a 1st year student, won the iFashion Start-up Competition, winning herself a cash prize, a sewing machine for herself and one for the college.

AFI continues to promote excellence throughout the fashion industry in South Africa and the African continent by giving young designers and those with a passion for fashion a head start in the industry and was a fitting opening for the shows at Cape Town Fashion Week 2011 from the 13th July, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Development is a major focus, as Chairman of AFI, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe explains; “We need to build and prepare the next generation of designers and design brands from South Africa and the continent. FOSCHINI AFI FASTRACK Day is a huge part of AFI's development programme. We want more of our designers to achieve success in their careers, which means giving them the necessary skills to run a profitable retail and fashion business. When our designers succeed, the entire industry benefits, and more jobs are created.”
Foschini GM, Alex Harris, adds: “Foschini is committed to supporting and developing talent for the retail industry. The Foschini AFI Fastrack Day together with The Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) provides the perfect partnership for an initiative that prepares student careers for the future, and really works.”
