Issued by: Cape Town College of fashion design
[Johannesburg, 31 May 2012] -

CTCFD will be hosting their 2012 'Open Day' on Saturday 23 June 2012 between 10am and 2pm.    All are welcome to come and view the college facilities, the work done by students in all 3 years of their programme, as well as meeting the staff.

CTCFD offers career focused education which enables graduates to pursue one of the many career opportunities that are available in the Fashion Industry.    Their highly acclaimed programme and high profile internships has helped many a young graduate launch successful careers with major Designers, Fashion Houses, Fashion Publications and Retailers worldwide.

They are respected by the fashion industry as a centre of excellence as their programme is designed to ensure that their graduates are 'work ready'.  Their nurturing culture recognises the unique and diverse needs of each student, and small classes enable their highly qualified and industry relevant facilitators to offer students individual attention.

In the past 5 years our students have featured in the finals of all major national design competitions and won many of the top national awards on offer.  In 2010 Cleo Droomer won the Elle New Talent Award and had his collection in Mr Price and in 2011 two of their students were finalists in the Vodacom Durban July Competition, Thoki Tafeni was the winner at the Foschini/AFI FastTrack Graduate event, Chelsea Mouton was the winner of the iFashion Startup Competition and Anna Rousseau made it to the finals of the SAFW Vodacom4U Student Competition.

As the longest serving fashion college in South Africa, having started in 1965, they offer a high level of education culminating in a nationally accredited Diploma in Fashion Design as well as an International Diploma through the City & Guilds of London.   They also offer part-time Short Courses in Garment Technology, Fashion Design and Digital Fashion Applications.

CTCFD has also introduced an exciting new Teen "Introduction to Fashion" Holiday workshop for aspiring Fashionistas.

The workshop will be held during the week of 2-6 June 2012 and will include an overview of the industry as well as the many career options available in Fashion.   The duration of the course is a week and the participants will be exploring trends, designing a collection, creating an innovative repurposed design as well as being given Style tips and working with silhouettes and colour.   An introduction to Digital illustration and Presentation will also be included.    The week will conclude with a Fashion Show featuring the garments made by the participants and a prizegiving celebrating their innovations.
