years ago I went from being a regular size 34 to a very plus size
40.
Besides the shock of having to look at this alien in the mirror, I
still had to get dressed every day, go to my clothing factory,
interact with clients and suppliers and then go out in the evening.
Suddenly I had to find a completely different look.
I was completely DUMBFOUNDED at the total lack of consideration for
all us not so perfect bodied women.
In my initial research I discovered that most of the designers and
buyers for the plus size ranges were young size 10 women. How can a
20 something, size 10 even imagine what my size 40 body requires to
make it look slimmer?
I started dreaming about creating a space that all the forgotten
women out there could claim as their own!! 4 years ago I
opened HAYLEY JOY in the Dunkeld West Shopping Centre.
What an amazing journey the last 4 years have been!
This is no ordinary fashion store, this boutique changes lives, BIG
TIME. I am completely blown away by the gratitude from women who are
so grateful that finally somebody is doing it for them on a BIG
scale. It was always going to be a challenge to design and offer
fashion for all ages under one boutique roof, but we have managed to
get it right and it is so rewarding to be able to service 3
generations, all at the same time.
In the beginning I spent a lot of time on the floor listening to the
feedback and the recurring gripe was, when is somebody going to take
current fashion and translate it into plus sizes. I am very proud to
say that today we design and manufacture our own range of funky,
fashionable and most importantly, comfortable clothing, in sizes
ranging from small to 7xl.
