[Johannesburg, 8 November 2011] -
Gert Johan Coetzee has come a long way since he completed his training and graduated in the top of his class as a fashion designer in 2005. Gert Johan's success story is never ending with a list of red carpet showstoppers and an even longer list of clients. Hardly a day goes by without Gert Johan being mentioned in the media and with all this, Gert Johan has managed to stay humble and true to himself, his clients and South Africa.
Each year, Gert Johan Coetzee gives someone else the opportunity of having his or her dream come true, by generously offering a once of a lifetime opportunity for someone to study towards a 3 year bachelors degree in Fashion Design at North West School of Design. This bursary values R80 500-00 and includes all tuition fees and books. The lucky winner will also have opportunities of various internships with Gert-Johan's studio.
Gert Johan Coetzee himself graduated from North West School of Design and has been serving on the advisory committee for the last 3 years. Gert Johan has selected this college for the bursary because the courses and course material is continuously updated with latest input from top designers and industry leaders, locally as well as internationally. The course that Gert Johan completed in 2005 totally differs from the course currently presented at North West School of Design, simply because the fashion industry itself is totally different to the industry from 2005. Our industry is more globalized with the world as our market.
Gert Johan Coetzee personally looked at each application and selected five finalists who attended the North West School of Design Annual Graduation fashion show after completing their NWSD application tests and individual interviews with Gert Johan.
The five finalists were: Mphuthi Mpho Wilfred (Qwaqwa), Phindile Papiyana (Whittlesea, Eastern Cape), Marquitte Ferreira (Kempton Park), Neo Madiehe (Soweto), John-Wayne Keyser (Secunda).
After the show, John-Wayne Keyser was announced as winner of the bursary. According to Gert Johan: “John Wayne will be the next fashion super star”
